SAP HANA Migration Made Easy Using Data Migration Option (DMO)

Migration to SAP HANA has been simplified using SAP SUM DMO tools:

As a prerequisite Migrating to SAP HANA database requires Source SAP environment to be in the Latest Enhancement Patch level(ex: EHP7). If Source SAP environment is on lower version of (ex: ECC EHP4) then this has to be Upgraded to SAP Latest Enhance patch before we perform Migration to SAP HANA.

If we go with Classic Migration and Upgrade approach, this will lead to two Business downtime’s. One for SAP version upgrade to Latest Enhancement Patch level and another downtime for Migrating the database to SAP HANA.

Using SAP SUM tool with database migration option (DMO) will solve this problem performing Upgrade and Migration in step. Database Migration Option (DMO) is feature provided by SUM tool, which allows SAP Upgrade and Migration to HANA in one go.

Benefits Using SAP DMO option:
• Migration steps are simplified as export/Import options are embedded within this DMO tool.
• System upgrade, Unicode Conversion, and database migration are combined in one tool
• Overall Business downtime is reduced using DMO
• SAP DMO Option is general available with SUM SP09
• Using DMO Option Unicode Conversion (single code pages) is supported with SUM SP10

System Prerequisites for DMO Migration:
• Dual-Stack split – DMO works only with ABAP systems, so a dual-stack split may be required beforehand.
• OS/DB: according to PAM with restriction – i5 not yet supported (“DB2 for IBM i” / “DB2 for IBM iSeries” / “DB2 for IBM i5/OS”)
• Source release:
> SAP ERP 6.0 or higher (e.g. EHP1, EHP2, EHP3)
> Systems as part of SAP Business Suite 7 or higher (SAP ERP 6.0 EHP4, SAP CRM 7.0, SAP SCM 7.0, SAP SRM 7.0)
> SAP SCM 7.0 is supported, but you have to manually migrate the live cache after migration as described in SAP Note 1825703
> Systems based on SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (e.g. SAP ERP 6.0) need at least SP17 for software component SAP_BASIS
• Target release: System based on SAP NetWeaver 7.4 and higher
